Sejak akhir-akhir ini banyak produk Stevia dipasarkan di pasaran. Sasaran utama golongan peniaga Stevia ini ialah pesakit kencing manis dan penyakit kronik lain. Bukti terbaru menunjukkan Stevia diproses dengan 'methyl-alcohol' dan bahan toksik lain.
Sememangnya Stevia adalah daun hijau tetapi kebanyakkan produk Stevia di pasaran adalah dalam bentuk serbuk atau cecair BUKAN asalnya daripada daun hijau Stevia. Produk Stevia yang anda gunakan sekarang adalah ekstrak Stevia yang telah dicampur dengan pelbagai bahan kimia, peluntur warna dan seterusnya dipasarkan sebagai makanan "kesihatan". Daun hijau Stevia mempunyai rasa manis 40 kali ganda lebih dari gula putih. Walaubagaimanapun, ia mempunyai kesan selepas rasa manis yang sangat pahit. Stevia yang diproses tidak mempunyai kesan selepas rasa manis ini. Pelbagai bahan kimia antaranya GMO Maltodextrine, GMO gula tebu, GMO Erythritol dan lain-lain ditambah untuk menghilangkan kesan "aftertaste" ini. Sebagai contoh GMO Erythritol adalah pemanis yang terhasil akibat fermentasi jagung yang dihasilkan melalui modifikasi genetik. "Stevia" yang anda gunakan ini adalah kombinasi bahan-bahan kimia merbahaya yang boleh menjejaskan kesihatan anda sekiranya diambil untuk jangkamasa panjang. Sehingga kini terdapat lima cara dipatenkan di seluruh dunia untuk proses ekstrak daun Stevia. Kesemua cara yang dipatenkan tersebut menggunakan ALKOHOL. Jadi sebagai umat Islam, penggunaan produk Stevia dalam makanan kita juga diragukan mengandungi bahan haram ALKOHOL.
Jadi fahamlah kita bahawa di dalam botol cecair yang dilabelkan sebagai "Stevia Semulajadi", tidak ada satu bahan pun yang semulajadi. Semuanya bahan kimia. Sekiranya cecair itu berwarna hijau, warna hijau itupun adalah bahan kimia.
Manusia tidak boleh lari daripada PEMANIS. Lidah kita dicipta untuk merasai betapa sedapnya rasa manis ini. Islam menyediakan pemanis semulajadi yang sangat baik untuk kesihatan kita iaitu MADU. Walaubagaimanapun, madu pada zaman ini diragui ketulenannya. Pilihan pemanis yang paling sesuai kepada kita pada zaman ini selain madu ialah GULA KABUNG. Gula kabung atau 'coconut palm sugar' ialah pemanis yang sangat sesuai untuk pesakit diabetes dan penyakit kronik lain. Ia mempunyai indeks glisemik yang rendah. Malangnya strategi pemasaran besar-besaran yang dijalankan oleh pengeluar Stevia menyebabkan gula kabung menjadi "asing" kepada kita. Kita lebih kenal kepada Stevia berbanding dengan gula kabung yang jauh lebih selamat dari Stevia.
